
Theodore Stanley, MD has been selected as the Entrepreneur of the Year by the MountainWest Capital Network and is the keynote luncheon speaker at the 22nd Annual Investors Choice Venture Capital Conference.
In his speech where he was honored, Theodore Stanley made the following remarks:
I am just an old country doctor, a boy from Brooklyn. I have discovered that I am a serial entrepreneur. People ask me how I became an entrepreneur and I tell them that it was by accident.
Dr. Stanley then talked about the process of developing a fentanyl delivery system through lollipops he made on his own.
He recommended the practice of having a mentor and that you can't have too many mentors.
He encouraged public / private cooperation between Universities and private companies. He said Utah needs more mentors and lots of money, but only if it is smart money in order to remain competitive in innovation and new companies.
Theodore H. Stanley, M.D., is the Chairman and Founder of ZARS, is a professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah, where he has been employed for the past 30 years. Dr. Stanley graduated from Columbia College and then Columbia University Medical School before completing a residency in anesthesiology at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Stanley has been director of research at the University of Utah for over 20 years and is internationally known for his developmental work on opioids, other intravenous anesthetics and novel drug delivery techniques. In 1985, he co-founded Anesta, a drug delivery company with two FDA-approved products: fentanyl Oralet and Actiq. Dr. Stanley is an often invited speaker on Anesthesiology and the future of drug delivery topics throughout the world.
