Mark Campbell provided the following information about the University Venture Fund:
The University Venture Fund’s mission is to enhance the quality of education for students by combining business and academic resources. The goal of UVF is to expose university students to private equity and the entrepreneurial process by providing a real-world business environment modeled after private-sector venture capital firms. By enabling students to perform research and co-invest capital alongside seasoned professionals, UVF creates an environment whereby students can gain a vast amount of experience in a broad range of business practices while providing value added services to our partnering professionals. It is anticipated that the University Venture Fund will be perpetually financed from its carried interest in the University Opportunity Fund I, L.P., allowing an increasing number of students to benefit from its educational opportunities.
The day-to-day management of the fund is comprised of a Managing Director who is located in Salt Lake City. Unpaid student volunteers from local universities perform due diligence for UVF Venture Partners. Student associates are responsible for researching, screening, and evaluating all potential investments and are required to dedicate a minimum of twenty hours per week working on activities relating to UVF.
The University Venture Fund offers a unique service for syndicating venture capital firms by providing human resources necessary to carry out time intensive due diligence. In return, the UVF has the opportunity to co-invest in deals led by the best venture capital funds nationally, and internationally. As a result, UVF participates in exciting and exclusive deals that are not regularly open to most funds or individuals in the venture capital industry. This strategy provides student associates with a unique educational experience, and increases the probability of success for UVF.
"The University Venture Fund is an exceptional forum to give young entrepreneurs exposure to real word capital formation," states Kent Madsen, partner for Wasatch Venture Fund.
Hal Halladay, CEO of Know More Media, said, "We are thrilled to be able to help provide detailed coverage of the exceptional panels, speeches, and keynote addresses at the University Private Equity Summit.
